4th Place
Coimbra City Council’s identity project for Coimbra European Capital of Culture 2027 was the result of a joint effort between myself and another fellow designer for the National Competition which aimed to create an identity for Coimbra as Capital of Culture 2027.
Out of 112 submissions, in which renowned creative agencies took part, our project earned the 4th place, receiving an Honorable Mention. A testament to the dedication, creativity, and vision we poured into this project.


Research & Conceptualization
We began by exploring the key elements that defined the essence of Coimbra's Historical identity. The arch emerged as a central motif, representing continuity and transformation - A metaphor for the journey from a proud and wealthy past to an innovative future.
Identity
Building on the concept, we developed a flexible visual identity that adapts to different contexts while staying true to Coimbra’s character. The logo was designed to evolve, reflecting the city’s dynamic nature. Multiple variations were created to showcase its versatility, demonstrating how it could be applied across various platforms and needs.






Applications and merch
We crafted a suite of design applications to illustrate the identity’s adaptability, ensuring its relevance to the city’s diverse cultural initiatives. Each element was thoughtfully designed to bridge tradition and innovation.




The final identity encapsulates Coimbra’s legacy and aspirations, serving as a unifying and vibrant symbol for the city. This project highlights our ability to create meaningful designs that resonate with both history and future potential.
