The Sapientia Boutique Hotel was a full-scale project that included everything from branding and website development to all of the hotel’s communication materials. The goal was to create a strong identity that captured the essence of the hotel’s unique fusion of historic elegance and contemporary sophistication.
This collaboration remains strong to this day, with the brand strategy shaping every new service and product that SBH launches. As Creative Director, I’m focused on keeping the brand current and the digital experience top-notch, helping it grow while staying true to its identity.
The logo featuring the owl – a timeless symbol of wisdom – anchors the visual identity while encapsulating the hotel’s connection to the University of Coimbra, and its status as a center of culture, education, and intellectual legacy. The refined, minimalistic design conveys the commitment to subtlety.It embodies a brand that is both grounded in history and forward-looking, offering guests an experience of understated refinement and cultural depth.
The carefully curated deep brown color palette was thoughtfully chosen to evoke a sense of both bohemian luxury and approachability, creating a visual identity that reflects the hotel’s historic charm.

The brand was designed to celebrate the intellectual and cultural heritage, inspired by Coimbra’s historic background. The name Sapientia - wisdom - became the foundation for the identity, aligning knowledge, timeless sophistication, and refinement.

The website was created to serve as the digital face of the brand, carefully balancing aesthetics, functionality and storytelling to capture the essence of the hotel. It was designed to be both modern and user-friendly, incorporating dynamic elements to provide a polished browsing experience.

The signage materials and amenities packages have been meticulously crafted to elevate the guest experience, seamlessly reinforcing the brand's identity through thoughtful, distinctive, and memorable offerings.

There was also a lot of strategic work on the positioning of the hotel as a high-end boutique destination. The design strategy focused on creating a narrative of 'wisdom' inspiration, while integrating concepts of contemporary comfort. This approach highlighted the hotel's cultural experiences, creating a distinctive narrative for guests.
